AUSLAN
One of the defining programs that makes Airly Primary School unique is our AUSLAN program. Children learn sign language from Prep to Grade 6. It is taught in a fun way through games and songs.

ICT PROGRAM
Classrooms have an interactive whiteboard, enhancing students' access to global information through internet technology. All students have access to laptop computers, netbooks and iPads. Students teleconference with other local schools using a Cisco WEBEX unit.
Airly Primary School is an accredited eSmart school, teaching students and the school community to be cybersafe.
INTER-SCHOOL SPORT
Our school is involved at various times throughout the year in sporting competition with local schools. A variety of sports are played, and the emphasis is on enjoyment, participation and sportsmanship. We also participate in the annual swimming, athletics, and cross-country district sports events. The whole school takes part in fitness activities each morning.
Recent Sporting Schools grants have provided our students the opportunity to experience athletics, football and swimming.
SWIMMING PROGRAM
As part of the educational policy of the school, a swimming program is conducted during fourth term at Aqua Energy, Sale. All children are expected to take part in this program.
PERFORMING ARTS
Airly Primary School has been fortunate to be involved with Arts Centre Melbourne’s Partner Schools Initiative. This program provided students with opportunities to engage with high quality performing arts and creative programs. For 2015-2017 the school had free access to unlimited Arts Centre performances, which also included workshops being held at the school and teacher professional development. The school aims to continue visits to Arts Centre Melbourne so present students can learn to enjoy and experience the performing arts in a metropolitan setting.

SUSTAINABILITY
Airly PS is a ResourceSmart school. In 2016 we achieved the Core, Waste and Energy modules which meant we surpassed our School Environment Management Plan targets. In 2017 we achieved the Water and Biodiversity modules. Students have been involved in the Greening Australia Love Our Lakes project, Bug Blitz and Planet Ark National Tree Planting Day. Our student ‘Green Team’ promotes sustainability within the school community and records data about the school’s energy use

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT & RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Airly Primary School adopts the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework which is implemented across the Wellington Network of schools. This is an evidence-based framework which aims to create a positive school climate for all school community members. It includes the use of data to respond to negative student behavior and implement practices and organisational systems for establishing safe, purposeful and inclusive school and classroom learning environments. Individual behaviour and learning supports are implemented to achieve academic and social success for all students.
ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM
Healthy students learn better. Children who feel included and supported in the school community become more engaged. Supporting children’s physical health, social and emotional development, in addition to their academic learning, gives them the foundations to grow up healthy, resilient and achieve their full potential.
Schools can influence student and staff health and wellbeing through a whole school approach. This involves planning, delivering health education, creating a culture that complements the health messages in the curriculum, and engaging students, staff, families and the community.
The Healthy Together Achievement Program was jointly developed by the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health and Human Services. It is based on the World Health Organization’s health promoting schools model. (http://www.achievementprogram.health.vic.gov.au/schools)
Airly PS has achieved five benchmarks of the Achievement Program:
- Sun Protection
- Sexual Health & Wellbeing
- Mental Health & Wellbeing
- Physical Activity
- Safe Environments
We are currently working towards the ‘Tobacco, Alcohol & Other Drugs’ benchmark
